World Cup 2022: Dua Lipa won’t perform, calls on Qatar

Singer and songwriter Dua Lipa has responded to speculation that she will perform at the World Cup by revealing that she will not visit the country until it fulfils pledges on human rights.

The Grammy Award-winning artist had been linked with an appearance at the opening ceremony at Qatar 2022, but has denied those reports on social media.

In an Instragram story, the London-born singer wrote: “There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar. I will not be performing and nor have I been involved in any negotiation to perform.

Dua Lipa performed in Kyiv ahead of the 2018 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

And although she wore white that day, she has previously revealed an affinity for Liverpool, describing herself as ‘an honorary supporter’ of the Reds.

“My dad and brother support Arsenal and I think I would be getting in a lot of trouble if I said that I just support Liverpool,” she said in 2020.

“But I love Liverpool and it has always got a special place in my heart.”
