Peter Baddoo, Department of Mathematics instructor, dies at 29

Peter Baddoo, an teacher within the Division of Arithmetic, handed away instantly on Feb. 15 whereas enjoying basketball on campus.

“Peter was an excellent, self-propelling researcher, a grasp of advanced operate concept with a burgeoning curiosity in machine studying, and had a number of collaborations throughout the U.S. and farther afield. He had an exceptionally promising future in academia. He was a deeply revered and valued member of my analysis group and the broader utilized math neighborhood. He can be sorely missed,” says Professor John Bush, his school mentor.

Along with his analysis, Baddoo was an exemplary trainer who gave generously of his time in helping colleagues, graduate college students, and undergraduates.

He was extraordinarily widespread amongst his college students,” says Michel Goemans, the RSA Professor of Arithmetic and Division of Arithmetic head. One in all Baddoo’s college students in school 18.04 (Advanced Variables with Purposes) says that “I took Peter’s class, and I walked out of that class really liking math. I used to be assured that I need to research extra of math and pursue a minor.”

Apart from his work as a scholar and trainer, Baddoo introduced the division collectively by organizing social occasions for postdocs and instructors; for these and different efforts he acquired a Math Group Service Award. His pursuits prolonged nicely past arithmetic and included music and sports activities reminiscent of basketball and lacrosse — which he performed at Oxford and Cambridge universities, and as a member of the Senior England Males’s coaching squad.
