Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho hits dramatic late winner at Fulham

Alejandro Garnacho’s 93rd-minute strike saw Manchester United seal a last-gasp win at Fulham on Sunday and boosted their top-four hopes ahead of the World Cup break.

United took the lead after 14 minutes as Christian Eriksen slid in to convert at the far post, but Erik ten Hag’s side were pegged back with just over an hour gone by a goal from their former winger Dan James.

And despite their dominance in the latter stages, it looked like United would have to settle for a point until substitute Garnacho burst into the area and fired home a low show deep into added time following a pass from Eriksen.

The win sees United move to within three points of fourth-placed Tottenham and Ten Hag’s side have a game in hand over both Spurs and Newcastle (third with 30 points).

It was an exciting end to the Premier League’s final fixture ahead of the World Cup and an ideal way for United to head into the break.

Ten Hag’s side will be in action again on December 27, at home to Nottingham Forest.

Despite defeat and the heartbreak of losing right at the end, Fulham remain well placed in ninth with 19 points.

The Cottages travel to Crystal Palace next on Boxing Day.
