Liverpool report: Reds hierarchy and Jurgen Klopp in Jude Bellingham

Liverpool have decided upon Jude Bellingham as the club’s major target for the 2023 transfer window.

The Reds have endured a difficult start to the season, winning just four of their opening 12 matches in the Premier League, drawing four and losing four. They’re now 15 points behind table leaders Arsenal.

With the club famously thrifty and fans criticising recent transfer activity, it seems as if Liverpool are set to throw their weight around next summer – after a 2022 summer transfer window in which many felt key areas weren’t addressed.

German outlet Bild (opens in new tab) are now reporting that Fenway Sports Group, the Liverpool ownership, are preparing a huge bid to bring the wonderkid to Anfield, with the hierarchy and Klopp all agreed on the target.

Klopp is said to be a huge fan of the Borussia Dortmund starlet and would like to renovate his midfield, with 10 players in his squad currently able to play in the centre of the park.

Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho can all play in midfield, with on-loan Arthur Melo completing the options for that area of the field.

On Twitter (opens in new tab) on Sunday, Giannis Chorianopoulos – editor in chief (opens in new tab)of Greek outlet Sportime – confirmed the that Bellingham is the priority for the Reds and that two midfielders could arrive in the next two windows.

According to the Mirror (opens in new tab), the Merseysiders have set aside £86 million to sign Bellingham. This would still fall short of Dortmund’s valuation but there is hope that a fee could be negotiated.

Bellingham is valued at around £81m by Transfermarkt (opens in new tab).
