Antonio Conte discusses World Cup break following Spurs’ win over

Antonio Conte expressed his gratitude for the upcoming World Cup break after his Spurs side saw off Leeds United in a frantic 4-3 victory.

Tottenham fell behind twice in the first half and again rallied late to snatch three points on Saturday afternoon in a raucous seven-goal affair, that also saw Leeds’ Tyler Adams sent off.

The victory snapped a run of back-to-back defeats in all competitions, but still threw up plenty of questions regarding Spurs‘ apparent fragility.

“I think it’s better to see the positive side,” Conte explained after the game, adding: “If you ask me about the game, when my team concede three goals, I’m never happy because it means you need to improve.”

He went further, discussing the fatigue among his squad: “This period has been difficult because of preparing for games every two to three days.

“I’m really happy to have this break [for the World Cup in Qatar] because we arrived today very tired, with a lot of stress. I think for sure we have to continue to improve.”

Tottenham have 11 players going to the World Cup later this month, which is less than some of their rivals around the top of the Premier League.

A last-ditch victory thanks to Rodrigo Bentancur’s brace ensures they head into the break in fourth place.
